Rays might hold key to Dodgers' big bat woes

Ken Rosenthal has a new piece up this morning that highlights the Dodgers' desperate need for a big bat. How desperate, you ask? Consider this: only the Washington Nationals have fewer long balls than LA. Since the Dodgers have so many other pieces of the puzzle in place to make it to the post-season, it would be a real shame if Ned Colletti proves unsuccessful in acquiring a masher–and soon. But as Rosenthal points out, the market for big boppers is rather thin at the moment.

However, Rosenthal fails to suggest that the Devil Rays might make a perfect trade partner for the Dodgers. LA needs to upgrade at 3B and/or in the outfield and have a solid farm system that could be drawn from for trade bait. The Devil Rays have a surplus of excellent outfielders and need to secure some arms to provide stability in the bullpen. What about a swap of a couple of Class AAA pitchers for Carl Crawford or Rocco Baldelli? Get on the phone, Ned!

BallHype: hype it up!

  1. […] Who needs a big bat? The LA Dodgers. However, I know many Dodger fans do not want to see another veteran acquired who will block their up and coming talent, such as Andy LaRoche (who looks a lot like Glaus, if you ask me.) J.P. would love to swing a deal for some Dodgers rookies though–could he offer up Rios again (despite my recent protests?) […]
