New tools for stats nuts

Baseball-Reference's new Play Index provides a handful of useful data mining tools for baseball stats freaks.

The Event Finder locates all of a player's hits, doubles, outs, home runs, and more. You can view a detailed summary, or the complete list of every play including opposing batter or pitcher, opponent, inning, score, runners on base, and a play description.

The Player Game Finder allows you to search player games matching detailed criteria. For example, you can find:

  • All 3 Home Run games by shortstops
  • Most RBI in a game with no home runs hit
  • Most multi-hit games by a player during their first 200 games

The Team Game Finder is similar to the Player Game Finder, but this tool will analyze team results.

The Batter vs. Pitcher tool lets you find the batter with the most hits, walks, or highest batting average against your favorite pitcher, and much more.

Limited Reports are free for everyone, and complete reports are available via subscription at $29/year (daily and monthly terms are also available).

Cheers to Sean Forman and the Sports Reference Inc. crew for rolling out yet another handy tool for every stats nut!
