Coco to Boston rumors

Indians' management is not happy about it, but news of a possible trade that will send Coco Crisp to the Red Sox leaked over the weekend and is now at the center of the Hot Stove. 3B prospect Andy Marte, who was acquired in late 2005 in a deal with the Braves, is also included in the package. Marte is highly regarded and while it will hurt Boston to see him leave, I really like the idea of Coco manning center field at Fenway this year. If you compare his 2005 offensive stats to Johnny Damon's you'll see that they're pretty close. Defensively speaking, Crisp has played left field primarily, but did notch a .955 FP over 79.7 innings in center. To boot, Coco is a full 6 years younger than Damon. And hey, his name is COCO! I like the looks of this trade, um that is, assuming that Mike Lowell has a fantastic year at third base, otherwise the loss of Marte will loom large…

  1. You have to love a guy whose name sounds like breakfast cereal. I think Lowell is about done and I think Boston will find someone else to play the hot corner this year. But, with Theo, you never know!

  3. Apparently, Manny's favourite cereal too! :) Lowell had his worst offensive year in 2005, but his defense remained pretty solid, at least if you look at the numbers. Marte looks like he will develop into an All-Star type of player, and I haven't seen a trade rumor yet this off-season that has his named linked to it AND has received positive commentary. No one seems to think it's a good idea to trade Marte.
