All eyes on Ty
With last year's rookie phenom pitcher Gustavo Chacin on the DL, the Blue Jays have turned to another rookie to fill his shoes. RHP Ty Taubenheim will make his Major League debut today in Denver versus the Colorado Rockies. Taubenheim was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in the off-season trade that also brought Lyle Overbay to Toronto. The righty made impressions at Spring Training this year, but didn't make the roster. He's pitched well in the minors though, posting a 2-2 record in eight starts with an impressive 1.36 ERA for the Triple-A Syracuse SkyChiefs. If Ty pitches well today, I suspect that we'll start hearing some calls for the demotion of Josh Towers. For more, see MLB.com or CBC.ca.

[…] Well, it seems as if one of my Blue Jays predictions has come true: Josh Towers was sent to the minors after last night's dismal performance against the Devil Rays. The Jays plan to call up a reliever to help out in the bullpen until injured starter Gustavo Chacin returns to the starting rotation next week. Due to upcoming mid-week off-days, the Jays don't require a 5th starter until June 6, and the club wasn't ready to announce who might replace Towers. […]
