Trade deadline rumor roundup

Today's the day! As the non-waiver trade deadline quickly approaches rumors about players being sent packing are flying about furiously. I tend to refer to Ken Rosenthal and MLB Trade Rumors the most during the Hot Stove. Here are the latest and greatest trade rumors:Eric Gagne could be headed to the Mets, while his chances of landing with … Read more »

Padres deal Linebrink to Brewers

The Brewers have sent three minor leaguers to the Padres for reliever Scott Linebrink. When I first read this news, I wondered why the Padres, who are very much in contention, would deal Linebrink away for three minor leaguers. But then the pieces of the puzzle started to come together…Firstly, Linebrink has been struggling this year. Read more »

Belliard gets extension, Young wants to stay

The Washington Nationals wisely extended the hot-hitting, work horse 2B, Ronnie Belliard, on Monday. I like this move. Belliard is surprisingly affordable and reliable. He's got a great attitude in the clubhouse, and can play decent 3B, SS and 1B. Belliard is also valuable off the bench. The Nationals don't have much to back up this … Read more »

Suitors for Jack Wilson?

Cesar Izturis has been sent packing from Chicago in a trade that should put him back to regular playing time with the Pirates. This seems like an obvious indication that Jack Wilson will be traded. I know the Jays were considering Wilson in the off-season, but they seem set with their infield these days. MLBTradeRumors recently … Read more »

More MLB.TV gripes

Yesterday, I griped about not being able to access MLB.TV and Gameday Audio simultaneously. Today, I have a new round of MLB.TV complaints:Blackout restrictions. Why can't I watch the Jays on MLB.TV? Because I'm on the West Coast, in the Seattle-area market? But there isn't even a Seattle game scheduled for today! The MLB.TV/Gameday Audio bundle. I've been a … Read more »

Sexist announcers on MLB.TV

I'm watching the Nationals/Astros game right now on MLB.TV, and the announcers have made a number of comments that made me cringe under the weight of their sexist nature. Who are these guys anyway??First, they mentioned Alyssa Milano's recent blog post where she says this about Dmitri Young:He isn't built for power. He isn't built for speed. He … Read more »

On Juan Pierre

I'm watching the Nationals/Astros game on MLB.TV right now. The announcers mentioned that Dodgers' CF Juan Pierre is on a nine game hit streak right now. They went on to discuss his speed on the bases  and potentional to be one of the great base stealers of the game. I remember times when the speedster was a revered … Read more »

Scout in the House? Oswalt coming out in relief

Roy Oswalt is making a rare relief appearance right now in Washington. The Astros have said he's an "untouchable" but the presence of some scouts in the house might be the reason why he's throwing in relief. Or, is he simply getting a chance to get an out after suffering a rough loss in his last start? Really, … Read more »

Glaus attracting interest from LA teams

With the trade deadline quickly approaching, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Troy Glaus' name is still swirling about in rumors. After all, there's been consistent talk of him moving on out of Toronto for the past two months. Over at CBC.ca, they're suggesting that the Dodgers or Angels might offer … Read more »
